This is What it Thinks it is

Well this 12-07-07 recording is nice and chaotic. Originally just supposed to be a radio play, the evening turned into a very special journey, filled with many surprised. The recording process prohibited all the performance from being saved in its entirety, but what was recorded came out very well.

I divided this recording into two sets for a reason. The first set actually is composed of three sections itself. The first section is the introduction and the tuning. The second section, the bulk of the Set A, is a play by Amy (the Falcon). The third section is a spinning by Special J and a bit featuring some radio booth visitors.

Set A
01 - Over Boyz Noise (introduction)
02 - The Naming
03 - Checks, Balances, Systems
04 - Play pt. 1
05 - Play pt. 2
06 - Play pt. 3
07 - Death Metal
08 - Interlude
09 - The Special J
-- contains profanity
10 - Sirens Everywhere
-- contains profanity

The second set turned out to be a much more standard Picked Pockets jam, featuring the core members as well as Special J on turntables, Darth Mannerism (name change?), and the Falcon.

Set B
01 - I Have Feelings Too
--contains profanity
02 - Stopped by the Chancellors (Finally We Have Been Noticed)
03 - The Boy Soldiers Look for some Gold (Luck of the Irish)
--may contain profanity
04 - While We Were Gone the Whirlwind Came
05 - Finding the Beast in its Lair
06 - A Striking Disaster
07 - Laffy Taffy
08 - Bonus Recording

I think this statement is true: the bonus recording was actually recorded before the end of the first set, during the track, "The Special J." While Special J scratched inside, the rest of the Pox were outdoors smoking cigarettes and playing games.

The statement might not be true if: the track was recorded after "Laffy Taffy" and I got confused. Regardless, it was recorded on my hand-held digirecordah.

Party!

What has been so special about the past couple weeks?

Approximately one year ago, the Picked Pockets started on their journey to where they are today. Be it good or bad, right or wrong, the Picked Pockets began their radio-performance routine about a year ago. The vast amount of not only successfully recorded but successfully progressive music is available and highly listenable. Perhaps listening to it after the fact is one of the favorite interests for both the band members and the fans. Perhaps not. It's a highly debatable subject. Highly controversial.

In any case, regardless of whether we've made any impact on the world or not, regardless of whether or not we've had any increase in a fan base (other than our own), and regardless of whether the changes this group of thievous musicians has experienced, it's good to see that when the name "the Picked Pockets" arises, it is vividly and effectively meaningful as it was when we first started using it on a regular basis.

The Picked Pockets have been a learning experience for its members. We'll continue to perform and record and release. And we'll continue to provide for those around us, as those around us provide for us.

Peace and thanks.

Here are some pictures from what I am calling the "Unnamed Performance," which occurred on Friday 10-12-07. The music files should be fully edited soon.

It's here! The incredible hour and a half PLUS jam of the Orphanage, recorded on 0-05-07, and of epic proportions concerning fortune and fame and stuff!

The Picked Pockets perform once again featuring the core members Peyote Slinga, Gore Be Grym, Visigoth, HB Wellz, A-slide, Arkun (real name TBA), and Cop Killa--live from 88.3 WQRI at RWU. As usual, kind of. But this release has pretty good levels (although Gore's got a bit dim at points, and the accordion at times was of questionable level) and a nice diversity of thematic tracks, as well as Peyote Slinga slingin' his sweet-stuff MACINTOSH

(advertising purpose of CAPS --maybe if you search for "Picked Pocket Macintosh" on Google, this page'll show up? Maybe now that I put that phrase in quotes, it'll increase the chance more? I don't know theory of Internet search at all, really, and I need more sleep--)

and some nice noisey experimentation. But the ol' P-Pox spirit's still around. We've got themes on Joyce's Ulysses, Daisy Miller, and a bunch more.

Columbus Day means going home, and the kids that don't go home have to go to the orphanage. They get instruments though. Listen to them.

Download the full album in mp3 format here:

And here's the incredibly-titled track list (names courtesy of zee pompous Gore Be Grym with some help from Peyote Slinga--'cause that's how it went down!):

Disk 1:

01 - Peyote Slinga's Borg Elevator Odyssey
02 - Introducing . . . Arena Run Blipside . . .
03 - Abductions
04 - Stars Overhead
05 - Polysegmanatic (Picked Pockets Reunite)
06 - Kids Can Dream Too pt. 1
07 - Kids Can Dream Too pt. 2
08 - Alsation Town
09 - The Cosmos Collapsed as We did the Dervish Dance
10 - Winterbourne Believed
11 - Fugee Funk
12 - Kaddish Dirge under Shoddy Lamplight
13 - That Moment, Timeless
14 - WQRI Interlude
15 - Song with Natural Segments yet Little Distinction
16 - What an Experiment! What a Fade!

Disk 2:

01 - Basement Hideout Part One
02 - Basement Hideout Part Two
03 - Let's Set Out on Electric Sails
04 - Steven Dedalus, on the Shore
05 - Wheezing Interlude
06 - Out on a Limb
07 - Hotel California
08 - Battle Hymn of the Materialists
09 - Hidden Track (outro)

*** Also, check out the New York band Angels of Light to see what P-Pox could potentially sound like if they were signed, wrote songs, and had higher production (all of which are debatably good and debatably bad qualities).

Club Club Emergency

Finally edited, the infamous Club Club Emergency jam is now available for download! Unfortunately eighty of the one hundred and ten minutes of the total jam did not carry through, but what did translate to CD form is definitely the best-leveled recordings the Picked Pockets have undergone. Featuring Teddy on the keyboard and Peter on mandolin and vocals, the show also includes the core members of the Picked Pockets. Oh, and we go by Monkfish Tail on this one (it's a dedication to Myanmar).

Disk One:
01 - Parameters (intro)
02 - The City
03 - Night Falls
04 - Campfire

Disk Two:
01 - Thalatta! Thalatta!
02 - We Were Rewarded
03 - Afterburst (outro)

Also look for the older jam, Trinity Trickle, later on this weekend!

Two Recent Jams

The first jam, which was recorded at the Bat Cave recording studio, is called Geography. This recording is three albums in size, and was recorded on the 21st of August.

The second jam, which was recorded and broadcast at RWU's WQRI radio booth, is called Sparked. This recording is two albums in size, and was recorded on the 14th of September.

There is a third recording that is being edited, consisting of Gore Be Grym, Peyote Slinga, and Arkun. It includes keyboards, too, which is neat. It should be available soon.
